The term was coined by American law professor Kimberlé Crewnshaw in 1989. Crenshaw said this, in a 2020 interview with Time magazine:

“We tend to talk about race inequality as separate from inequality based on gender, class, sexuality or immigrant status. What’s often missing is how some people are subject to all of these, and the experience is not just the sum of its parts.”

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “intersectionality” as

“the complex, cumulative manner in which the effects of different forms of discrimination combine, overlap, or intersect”.

When looking at femme representation in media, we must consider multiple perspectives to understand the widest scope possible.

We want our conversations to be as inclusive as possible, and that means both considering the experiences and including the voices of all women and femme presenting people when discussing how they are represented in media.

Our episodes will include roundtable discussions featuring a diverse, rotating cast of hosts with a variety of lived experiences. This cast includes people of different ethnicities, nationalities, religions, sexualities, and gender presentations.

We expect our listeners to be respectful of our hosts and guests. We will not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or biogtry of any kind in regards to communication from or interaction with listeners.
